Search Engine Marketing and PPC

Interested in Search Marketing??? here's the run down...

Search Marketing is also known as “organic search marketing”. With effective search marketing, a website owner can optimize their website to obtain higher search engine rankings for keyword searches on search engines such as Google or Yahoo. This is done by a combination of methods including website content being readily accessible and relevant to the users looking to buy your products or services. This could come in the form of user hosting reviews of products and/or services, articles that explain how to use the product, company blogs, newsletters and/or promotions. Google, Yahoo, and Microsoft all place PPC ads next to “organic“ search results which are unpaid. These websites are ranked in order of relevance which is determined by each search engines own specific criteria.

PPC Marketing is called pay-per-click, because it is just that. Advertisers pay an amount for each click that is generated by an advertisement that is displayed on a website or search engine such as Google, Yahoo, etc. On the web search, when a user enters a keyword array, ads relative to the array will be shown. Search engines that offer PPC sometimes also have a “content network” where they will distribute these ads to third party websites where the ad publisher will get paid a portion for every click that they received from that ad placement. An example of this would be Google Adwords for advertisers (Google Adsense for publishers), or Yahoo Search Marketing (YPN for publishers). Both companies give you very detailed instructions on how to implement a PPC campaign to drive traffic to your website. According to a report published by ComScore, Inc in January 2010, as of December 2009 search market share is as follows: Google 65.7%, Yahoo 17.3, and Microsoft 10.7%. These three companies control 93.7% of all keyword searches (approx. 14.7 billion in December 2009) completed on the internet.
